I remember first hearing this recording by accident on ABC-FM once. It was the full 74 -minute version with Tom Waits: starting with just the simple loop of the derelict man singing about Jesus' blood -- over and over and over, with the instrumentation building and building, until Tom Waits comes in (after about 25 minutes if I remember correctly).

It was extraordinarily moving. Still is.

Should that comma be after the 'yet'?
Interesting question Hefin.
I think so.
The title as Gavin Bryars has it is "Jesus' blood never failed me yet".
The lyrics from the Jars of Clay version don't have commas, but if you read it they seem to think there is a break after 'yet'.
Notice that I save the gag 'Hefin only knows until this last paragraph? Small mercies, small mercies.
