Watching Mr Turnbull on the TV last night on Q&A it remains a complete mystery to me why they do not have him as their leader. What he says may or not be true, but the way he says it is vastly superior to either Brendan Nelson or Peter Costello (yesterday's man).
Brendan Nelson is obviously just Cannon Fodder, and everyone knows that. No one seriously believes that he will lead the conservatives to the next election, he is just the traditional stop-gap sacrificial lamb you elect because no one else wants to be the bunny (yes that's a deliberate mixed metaphor!).
But unless Labor's wheels fall off completely in 2010, whoever leads them will not win the next election anyway, so it's all a bit academic.
Turnbull v Costello's the big one. Turnbull I guess thinks, if Costello departs under his own steam, then it's better to be the one giving the gracious send-off than the one who pushed out a potential saviour.
or not... See today's SMH - Costello says he will not challenge. No surprise. http://www.smh.com.au/news/national/costello-wont-challenge/2008/08/21/1219262393074.html

And we need to know this... why?
