facebook chess

It's the first time I've played chess in years. I used to play all the time in primary school.

I remember that Sherlock Holmes used to play chess by post in the Conan Doyle stories. [edit: no I don't. see comments]

Anyone want a game, feel free to challenge on facebook. I have a lot of writing to do and I need the brain working. I promise to make at least two unforced blunders per game.

To the contrary, Sherlock Holmes's view of an interest in chess was that it was "one mark of a scheming mind." (In the story "The Adventure of the Retired Colourman.")

Ah, thank you for the correction, jon!

But chess by mail did feature in one story, didn't it? Perhaps that was the one.

No such Sherlock Holmes story by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, I'm afraid. Perhaps in a pastiche by someone else.

Oh dear, I did get that wrong, didn't I?

Well it's been about 30 years since I read Conan Doyle, so that is about the same length of time since
I last regularly played chess!
