Dilmah is the world's first truly ethical tea

Explain the logic underlying that conclusion.

Especially since, on the other side of the pack, you tell me that you are 'proud'.

Good question and it's also great to know there are people who take the time to read the pack and really question the claims and not just get taken in by clever marketing. But, I can explain the Dilmah claim as the most ethical tea. Dilmah does all their picking, packaging and marketing from the HQ in Sri Lanka so the money stays in the country and goes to the workers who receive fair and ethical working conditions. Dilmah founder - Merrill J Fernando - has also established the MJF Charitable Foundation and Dilmah Conservation which are committed to social justice and ensuring man and nature co-exist in harmony. Check out the wodnerful work of Mr Fernando and his initiatives that really do practice business as a matter of human service on the website www.dilmahtea.com

You should know that I represent Dilmah in Australia as a public relations consultant. Here in Oz we have just brought in Dilmah tea with a free pendant made by people from the village of Koulara - Dilmah have bought the pendants and included them in the packs to help the village people with business. This is just one of the great things the MJF Charitable Foundation does. www.mjffoundation.org

Please feel free to get in touch if you have any more questions.

Gordon I read the little leaflet in the packet that tells what the Foundation is doing for the children of the workers. I was a bit cross because they talked about the TVs computer games etc they were providing in the Centre so I thought they were not encouraging the reading of books.

I emailed them & they graciously replied, saying they did provide books & were keen to see all the children become literate.

They provide books and newer technology which is becoming cheaper as the market becomes more saturated with even newer models and brands. Today, most business communication is done via computer so it's important to learn these skills as well as basic reading and writing.

Merrill J. Fernando is a gorgeous family man who writes delightful rambling letters to his customers and inserts them in his packets of tea. His is also charmingly given to sweet but fundementally unsupportable statements such as "Dilmah is the world's first truly ethical tea."

This is a biased comment since I have always had a soft spot for Sri Lankans, since my days as a boy at Box Hill Reformed Church in Melbourne - where they tended still to refer to themselves as Ceylanese.

Equivocal language. Depends how you're using the word 'proud' doesn't it?
