Enormity

It doesn't mean 'big'.

As this traditional Anglican prayer from the 1552 Prayer book demonstrates:

"From the Bishop of Rome and his detestable enormities. Good Lord, deliver us."

I'm sorry to bring the tone down on this sophisticated blog, but I remember reading that phrase at a younger age and laughing hysterically.

'Enormity' does not equal 'enormousness'.
