Peter Costello again

Now look, I DON'T want to be the one to say I told you so.

I predict that if he does come back it won't make any difference to the fortunes of the Liberal Party. They have no one, Costello included, to match the Rudd-Gillard-Swan combination, and likely won't for many years to come.

Costello is seen as part of the Howard era, as is Abbott, who is also perceived as a bit of a whinger who only opens his mouth to change feet; Bishop doesn't have the support of colleagues; Joe Hockey is a nice bloke, but like Costello he lacks the 'killer instinct' of Turnbull; young turks like Christopher Pyne have the killer instinct but lack the charisma necessary and are too much into head kicking.

Pity for them that Barnaby Joyce is a National - he's possibly the only one with enough respect from the electorate to rival Rudd.
