Light up for Earth hour

Plug in those 100 watt light bulbs and let 'em burn, baby, burn.

If you're worried about CO2 emissions, it's better for the earth than the alternative.

Gordo,
I know that most of the anti-green stuff on your blog and craig's blog comes with a certain element of tongue in cheek. But as a brother who doesn't lean one way or the other on this issue - I find this antagonistic stance towards the environment a little bit concerning.

It seems that you guys are seeking to cause offence with something other than the message of Jesus. I think that's a bit disappointing and un-loving.

Good on you Gordo! The high PC atmosphere of the whole pro-enviro thing is something I can't stand either :) Burn, baby, burn, Disco Inferno.

I don't think this is helpful, or encouraging, or a good witness.

I was about to take up nicotine inhalation until I got past the title...

But...but...it is ecologically responsible to use the 100W light bulbs in preference to candles! Much less carbon generated.

At the end of the hour, you take the bulbs out and go back to the eco-things again.

Why is it that expressing a certain view on things will get you criticised for creating offence, but expressing the other view doesn't.

Eg. telling people to turn off lights for earth hour is somehow a good thing to do (no matter what the facts are), but saying that electric lights are much more environmentally efficient than many other ways of lighting is somehow going to cause problems.

And there's the problem of the mercury in those "eco" bulbs if they break. (besides the dimly religious amount of light they emit).

Because this is a sensitive topic for a lot of people.Perhaps pe ople commenting here may not think so, but isn't that irrelevent?

Tongue-in-cheek jokes cause offense and are unloving. Sure, it's your freedom to say it, but is it wise? Is it sensitive and timely? Is it godly to cause offence, just because you can?

I have been so ashamed by how many Christians have handled this issue on the blogs.

Well my conscience is clean and I'll be judged by no mere men, unless it's valid. Let's face it - there are bigger battles for Christians to fight other than the environment. Gordo and Craig, keep going as you were.

I'm not labeling your stance discouraging (I don't hold anyone's opinions against them and generally I enjoy hearing all opinions), only your manner.

samr and onlinesoph,

Please accept my genuine and unreserved apology for any personal offence that I've caused either of you.

While I don't agree with the views you are expressing about how to express your views, it was never my intention to cause either of you distress.

Once again apologies, and God bless.

Gordon.
