London—public transport that works

Elizabeth Farrelly writes about public transport that works. The London Underground carried more than a billion people in 2006-2007, a record.

If you can live with expressions like 'peristaltic brio', it's a good article.

The Los Angeles metro is quite busy it has 300,000 passengers daily. Not bad for a 'system' which is a little longer then just the two lines from Sydney to Campbelltown ( East Hills and the 'old southern line' via Granville)
And its clean, fast and ontime

and good public transport creates jobs, builds communities (you cant talk to the other motorist like you can to the person waiting at the station) and assists urban renewal
