Living sacrifice

The expression "living sacrifice" is from Paul's letter to the Romans, chapter 12, verse one, which says:

I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.


"Living sacrifice" is a paradox, because sacrifices are dead.

    It means "giving up your life" in service to God.

    There's a phrase I picked up somewhere about this verse...

    The problem with a living sacrifice is it's always trying to crawl off the altar.
